We took a little trip to Lake Texoma for Mother’s Day and had a great time. The kids swam while Tamra and I took many pictures. It was such a nice day to spend with My Mom, Tamra’s Mom, and of course the awesome mother of my children, Tamra. The picture here is of our Niece that Tamra took right before we left.

Photos of our awesome trip to Galveston, Texas

We decided at the last minute to head down to Galveston Texas for some spring break fun. I took off work at 5:30am Friday and we asked the kids were they wanted to go when they woke up. Next thing we know we’re loading into the car and headed south. It was a long drive with a 10 month old little boy but it was so worth it when we got there.

It was a cold 45 degrees with the wind blowing in Durant, Ok and when we got to Houston it was 65 degrees at 8:00 pm, it was so awesome. We enjoyed the Houston skyline at night with the windows rolled down as we drove to our destination. We got there around 8:30 and enjoyed one of our favorite restaurants, Fish tails. We set on the deck and reviled in the cool breeze as we ate and watched all the cars and people go by. The kids were excited and they could not wait to go to the beach.

We woke up early the next morning, devoured breakfast, and went to the beach. It was foggy that morning, providing an amazing backdrop to our fun family pictures. Naomi found all kinds of seashells, Ethan found a dead catfish, and Finley just went back and forth on the beach looking for long objects to hold.

Later that day, the kids enjoyed lunch in the downtown area. We drove and walked around that fun afternoon trying to take in as much as we could before we had to be back to the beach. There were many antique stores downtown that Tamra and I wanted to go to, but we did not want to drag Ethan and Naomi around. Plus we would have probably bought more crap than our little car could have handled. (On our last trip down there ten years ago, Tamra and I were separated for eight hours by an Ikea shelf box that we bought in Houston) oh the crap me and Tamra do!

That evening we got back to our room, rested, and then headed back to the beach. Ethan and Naomi had a blast in the water as Finley played in the sand with me and momma. We took a lot more pictures that night of the kids and we ended it all with some pictures of the Ethan and Naomi light painting.

We had the time of our lives there in Galveston and we hope to come back soon. Here are a few of the pictures that we took on our spring break mini vacation. Hope everyone enjoyed their spring break as much as we did. Let us know about what you did on your spring break or what your favorite thing to do in Galveston are.

Enjoy life,
John Horner

Happy Easter! Sherman texas photography

I was driving through Sherman Texas the other day and I found this amazing wall at a vacant building. I got home and told Tamra about it and next thing we know, we are loaded up and headed to do a photo shoot with our daughter Naomi. It’s awesome having our girl to model for us!

We got there early in the evening when the light was perfect. In these photos Tamra just used natural light. In some of the shots we used a prism in front of the lens. On the canon 5d mark iii, it blurs the side of the shots while adding some color. On the iPhone, it shows up as two separate pictures, which I thought adds a cool fashion photography effect.
This effect is known as prisming.

We used the new Sigma 35mm 1.4 art line lens for most shots and we love it. The lens is so amazing. The background blur is perfect and the in focus details are crisp. This is the lens that we keep on our camera most of the time. We also used the Sigma 15mm 2.8 fisheye for the wide photos. This lens gets 180 degree field of view, which is awesome for some shots.

Hope everyone has a happy Easter. We had a great time today with family and friends. I thank Jesus for giving us this amazing life and for giving his life for us.

Photo Shoot for Josh Messick and Erin Rogers of Honest Dulcimer

28 Feb

double exposure of rustic roots

We had the opportunity to do a commercial photo shoot for Russell Cook of Master Works Dulcimers and Bowed Psalteries. Through this photo shoot we met Joshua Messick which designed Master Works website, go check it out www.masterworksok.com

Joshua Mesick and Erin Rogers were working on an album together at the time.  They hired us do a photoshoot for their album Honest Songs of Hope. You can order it here www.honestdulcimer.com Joshua plays the hammer dulcimer and Erin Rogers plays the mountain dulcimer. They are both National Champions and it shows through their music. The two are so talented and gifted by God, it is truly amazing music. You can also check out Josh’s site www.joshuamessick.com and Erin’s site www.scenicroots.com for more info.

This photo shoot was split up into an early morning shoot and a sunset shoot so that we could get to different looks. They wanted to show their journey from darkness and struggles to light and Gods love for them. This first photo is a double exposure showing their eyes were opened, reveling what God has in store for them. These were taken in a forest near Durant, Oklahoma. The church in the photos below, is actually a church that has been moved and was on blocks out in the country. It was an amazing atmosphere with the horses running around as the sun came up! The photos taken at sunset were on Russell’s land in Bennington, Ok.

These are just a few of the photographs we took for their album. We had an amazing time with them and Russell and Merla Cook and Joshua makes the most ridiculously awesome smoked brisket and ribs! Ever. I hope everyone enjoys the photos

I took this off of the Honest Dulcimer website so that you can learn a little more about Joshua and Erin.

This album was created out of personal hardship in each of our lives. From this brokenness came the desire to communicate a real and healing message of hope. Honest is two people begging for healing from God, seeking the Truth, and learning that He is faithful no matter the circumstances. Living honest starts with admitting that we are hurting and need help. It is a continual quest for truth and transformation in our lives; the beginning of revival in our hearts. Here, we share songs of hope that helped us find God’s peace in our times of darkness. We pray that you would find encouragment in the music and be challenged to live Honest.

Joshua

I began playing hammer dulcimer when I was nine and was honored to be titled the 2003 National Champion. I used to play only for the purpose of becoming good. Now, I play music because I love it with an understanding that music is God’s gift to experience His love and healing. And, it wasn’t until I endured a season of grief that I came to this understanding. Honest was recorded while my heart was broken and continues to be a balm in my life.

Erin

I received a mountain dulcimer for my seventh birthday, won the national championship in 2004, and knew I wanted to play music for the rest of my life. It was not until I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2007 that I began to fully understand the power of music to soothe the weary soul and heal the heart.  Playing dulcimer in the chemo room helped me get through some of the hardest days of my life, and that experience influences every note I play today.

Newborn photography at the Thompson’s home in Ada, Ok

9 Feb 20130209-154525.jpg

Ada, Oklahoma newborn photographyWe had the privilege of photographing baby Jameson in the Thompson’s beautiful home in Ada, Ok. Tamra and I had an amazing time with the parents and little Jameson. Newborn photography takes extra time but the pictures are worth it. Babies grow up so fast and its nice to have beautiful pictures to remember those early days of your newborns life. With this photo shoot we incorporated the couple’s personal items and taste. We had an easy time getting great shots because…HELLO! Their house was amazingly decorated. In these photos we used a lot of natural light that was coming through the large windows. In a few of them we got out our speedlights, parabolic, and softboxes just to add a bit of fill light. Hope you enjoy these photos as much as we do and if you’re looking for a newborn baby photographer then give us a call or email. Our studio is based in Durant, Ok. but we can travel to your home in the Oklahoma or Texas area.

Fall fruit stand mini session photos Durant, Oklahoma

13 Dec

By John Horner
This was a fun mini session photo shoot we did with the Coyle family back at the start of Fall. I know I’m a little late on posting, it’s like almost Christmas! We had a lot of fun with these kids and I’m sure we drove the fruit stand people nuts playing with their nuts! Really they had a big bin of nuts!
The fruit stand is located outside of Calera, Oklahoma which is located on highway 75 just south of Durant. They have an awesome fruit stand with a large selection of food and juices and the owners are great people too. Stop by and check them out on your way back from Dallas or were ever.
Here is a few of the many photos Tamra took that fun day.
